Now, the ATACR™ 4-16 x 50 will allow you to achieve the same kind of extreme performance from your hunting rifle. Its resolution and clarity, in a second focal plane configuration, will fully realize the capability of the flattest-shooting hunting cartridge.  The ATACR™ 4-16 x 50 incorporates the same multi-coated ED glass, resulting in brilliant images, superb color contrast and outstanding low-light performance, as used in the original Nightforce ATACR™ 5-25 x 56—one of the most popular and acclaimed long-range riflescopes the company has ever built. The 4-16 x 50 version measures just 13.1 inches and weighs 33 ounces.

Every possible advancement is standard with the ATACR™ 4-16 x 50, including an integrated Power Throw Lever, low-profile ZeroStop™ elevation technology, DigIllum™ digital reticle illumination, faster diopter adjustment, and highly visible magnification markings. The windage adjustment is capped to prevent accidental adjustments in the field.

 The Nightforce ATACR™ 4-16 x 50 is offered with either .250 MOA (30 MOA per revolution) or .1 Mil-Radian (12 Mils per revolution) adjustments. The 34mm tube allows 110 MOA/30 Mils total elevation adjustment. Two industry leading reticles are offered with this new ATACRTM; the proprietary Nightforce MOAR™ and MIL-R™.

MOAR™ - 30 MOA C544

Combined with a floating center crosshair, this makes for a reticle extremely fast and easy to use in the field. MOAR™ reticles in Nightforce 5.5-22x and 8-32x NXS models have a 20 MOA scale below centerline (at left). Reticles in 3.5-15x models have an additional 10 MOA scale below center.

The elevation and windage marks can be used for ranging objects when the size of the target is known. Bracket the target from top to bottom or side to side within the marks. Distance to target can then be determined using this formula:

Target size in inches ÷ Image size (moa) x 95.5 = range in yards.
For field expedient ranging inside of 500 yards, a constant of 100 can be used in place of 95.5.

Please note that accurate rangefinding with the MOAR™ reticle can only be accomplished at the power settings shown above.

MIL-R™ - 10 Mils C543

Range estimation

The Nightforce MIL-R™ reticle can provide you with an accurate distance to your target, when the size of the target is known, by utilizing one of the following Mil relation formulas:

Target Size in Inches ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 27.77 = Distance in Yards
Target Size in Inches ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 25.4 = Distance in Meters
Target Size in Centimeters ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 10.93 = Distance in Yards
Target Size in Centimeters ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 10 = Distance in Meters
For example, a standard stop sign measures 30” tall x 30” wide. Knowing the size of the target, in this case, a stop sign, and applying the correct formula above, you will be able to accurately calculate the distance to your target.

Known target size = 30”
Image size = 2.5 Mils. To measure image size of target in Mils, refer to the reticle diagram above.
Divide target size (30”) by image size in reticle (2.5) = 12
For distance in yards, multiply 12 x 27.77 (constant) = 333.24 yards to target.
For distance in meters, multiply 12 x 25.4 (constant) = 304.8 meters to target.
Your ability to accurately measure your target in your reticle does take some practice to become proficient.
